I think that the lowman home work shop was a complete success. Everyone there seemed to really enjoy it and I think it was good for us to finally be the ones not getting tested for once. The topics that were chosen were ones that these older people could really enjoy using now that they have the knowledge to do it. The couple times I was there the people there seemed like they were just trying to soak up as much information as they could and were really enjoying learning everything.

At the beginning of the month the AITP meeting had 2 guys from a computer store come in and talk about games. I thought that they were very good at speaking and you could tell after they told you that they had their own radio show. They talked about video games for a very long time and seemed to be really in to it. Ive never really been that big into those kind of games so a lot of the stuff they were saying went right over my head. I thought they were going to focus more on the programing and making of the game side. But overall it was a good presentation.

Next monday is the day our group is going to present our project (Teaching them how to use audio and video cds). We have run into some complications dealing with the presentation. The computers that they are using are so out of date that they don't have a cd burner and probably can't even play a video from a cd or have any media player software. So with this news we had to reconfigure are entire presentation and I think it will turn out very well for the resources we have.

I like how we are using the wiki pages to do our report. Before we would all do are on part and then send it to one person and they would piece it together. And it was never good when you were that person putting it together because every paragraph was always completely different and every paragraph was never leading into the next one so you always had to fix and make corrections. With this wiki page everyone can do their part and put in their information whenever they have time and people can change other peoples part so that the whole paper can run more smoothly.

I think the IT's top 5 training mistakes shows that IT needs better management in this field. According to Dr. Gerdes's class only 25% of IT projects are a success. Now I know that with new technology that hasn't been put into action yet, your going to have problems, but still 25% is horrible. A lot of it is due to the size of the company. Big companies have a lot more to oversee and sometimes they overlook the little things. But still being a big company means you have the resources to just hire more people to do what you need to get done and do it right. I think if IT companies put more time in planning and doing things right instead of hurrying up and making deadlines they would see a big difference.

I think that its good that we are able to go to help out the senior citizens with all of their computer questions. For me I know my grandparents/parents know absolutely nothing about computers and I'm always being hasseled to answer very elementary questions. So maybe with this we can eventually spare some of their grandsons and daughters.
